Abstract

The aim of the paper is to relate the recent results in the classical travel-time inversion problem, to represent new key notions (universal sequence, majorant and singular points) emerged in the research conducted in the last few years on the problem and to explain --- using duality principle --- why discrete measures (or, geophysically, waveguides with a finite number of layers) are so significant for describing ambiguity in travel-time inversion
