Appendix D. The MITPAN standard formats for earthquake catalogs.

An earthquake catalog usually reports origin times, locations (latitude, longitude, and depth), and magnitudes of seismic events. Therefore, the software developed at MITPAN is making use of standard formatting of earthquake catalog data for the uniform processing. Over the years the following four formats have been considered -

D.1 20-bytes binary format
D.2 41-bytes text format
D.3 CSF format
D.4 68-bytes text format
The first and the second formats were standard of EdCat and Catal console applications developed in the early 1980ies. Since the earthquake data is much more accurate nowadays, the ECP package has changed the standards of accuracy to a higher level.
